About The Hardware

The Halethorpe Weather-Watch webpage is updated from recent data collected by a Davis Instruments Wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus weather station. Additional data is collected by a LabJack, data aquisition and control device, with lighting counter, and temperature sensors. The data is recorded every minute. Two D-Link model DCS-930L wireless internet cameras provides video feed that is used for the snapshots, the last hour video, and the all day video on the Weather Cam web page.

The weather station equipment is running on dedicate HP model 570-p017c computer. The computer has an Intel Core i-5-7400 processor, 16GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM, and 1TGB HD, running on Windows10 64-bit operating system. Backup power is provided by a CyberPower 1350VA UPS.

About The Software

The weather data is processed, weather maps and metars downloaded, graphs plotted, files organized and uploaded - all by Weather Display software. It also does real time, auto scale and graph history graphing, FTP of the weather data to website, pager and email notifications of extreme conditions, web download, Metar/ Synop emails, averages/extreme/climate/NOAA reports, web cam upload, grouped file uploads, FTP downloads, decoded metar download's, APRS output (internet and direct com port as well) ,WAP, direct web cam capture, animated web cam images, weatherdials, weather voice, weather answer phone, use of Dallas 1 wire sensors (such as lightning counter, solar sensor, barometer sensor and extra temperature/humidity sensors with any weather station), using a Labjack to add extra temperature sensors to the existing weather station (USB)... and lots more.

About The Data

The weather data collected by this station is uploaded to the Citizen Weather Observation Program (CWOP) at 10 minute intervals. This data is forwarded to the Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingestion System (MADIS) which collects data and provided data quality feedback. The data quality report and location confirmation is made available at CWOP Information for CW1550 in Halethorpe, MD US, and is updated daily. The data is also directly uploaded to Weather Underground, WeatherForYou, Weathercloud, WindAlert, and AnythingWeather.

About The Website

The website was first located on Comcast, but as of 7/21/15 is on MDDHosting and has been updating since August 13, 2003. The update history of the website software and changes can be seen at the top of the wx21.php tag listing page. The Weather Display Live @ Halethorpe, MD, which utilize Adobe Macromedia Flash, also updates at 10 second internals. Other pages use PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) and Ajax (asynchronous JavaScript and XML) programming to provide 10 second updating. The lastest addition is this Meteotemplate 8.0 by Jachym Brzezina from the Czech Republic.
